Lake Parramatta
Lake Parramatta is located in the North Parramatta area just off Bourke St. This reserve area is the home to Australia’s first Arch Dam built entirely from sand stone quarried on site. This damn used to provide water to the Parramatta and Sydney areas as the population grew. On the reserve there is a café, picnic tables overlooking the water, water craft hire, swimming area and a walking trail that makes its way around the lake. With several different routes to take for this trail you may even come across some Aboriginal rock art along the way although much of it was flooded when the dam was originally built. Lake Parramatta is a beautiful spot to take the family for a relaxing lunch, a walk and to take in some local history with signs in several places to provide information on the history, animals and even plants that were utilized by the local Burramattagal (Dharug) people for food and medicine.
