Broke

GPS Waypoint            Watch Video

Broke is a little country town with a population of only a couple hundred people. The Wollombi Brook waterway flows through town with McNamara Reserve situated along the river in the heart of town. McNamara Reserve is a free camping area with toilets, bins and even power in some sections. A short walk to the town center with a small pub, restaurant and service station all combined into one. There is a Fire Station, Play Ground and two Churches but not much else. It would make a nice spot for those travelling to visit the vineyards of the Hunter Region as it is in pretty close proximity to many of them and pretty central. While camping is said to be limited to two nights, there are clearly some that stay longer and with the abundance of flat, open space I see no reason why you couldn’t stay longer if you were well behaved. You do get some of the locals and even visitors riding trail bikes and such through the reserve and the grass can be a little long as it appears to be maintained by local residents more than the Council. Keep an eye out for snakes in the warmer months especially if you decide to head to the river for a swim.
